Hi. I'm 27 years old. I'm totally blind as well as have other chronic mental illness. My passions are connecting those in need with supportive resources. This includes myself, friends, family and anyone I meet online who I feel connected to. I'm interested in learning about all kinds of disabilities, mental illness, treatments, ways people choose to live in the world. I have a deaf friend and want to learn tactile asl.
I live in a residential care community for people with psychiatric illness. Before then I lived in a supportive living community, one of only two in the country for the blind/ visually impaired. I don't see myself living "on my own" at any time in the future for many reasons. This is actually a positive as it's my goal to explore and perhaps one day help create viable flexible options for asistive living/ residential communities among those with all disabilities. Particularly in bridging the gap between psychiatric and other disability services as many providers see them as mutually exclusive.
I love reading memoirs by authors like Cathy glass, Torey Hayden, Casey Watson ETC. And books about the effects of childhood trauma raising kids with special needs ETC
If you share these interests and would like to know me please send a mesage.
My friends describe me as a good listener, strong advocate, and emotionally complex. I love cats. Would love to meet others who share my interests. I also have a BS degree in counseling psychology and volunteer for an online crisis intervention organization.
